Clearing Skies and Flame Azaleas at Roan Mountain
We began the second day of our Blue Ridge Mountains photography excursion with a visit to Roan Mountain. The hike began through thick fog as we struggled to see more than a few feet ahead on the trail.
But as we climbed higher and the sun rose in the sky, the fog began to burn off and we were rewarded with puffy clouds and a brilliant blue sky.
The flame azaleas were in full bloom and I had never seen anything like them. I just loved the bright pop of orange against the green of the leaves.
Roan has long been on my list of places I'd like to camp and our day trip there only made me want to go more. I imagine a magical sunset followed by an epic sunrise spent in a tent with a winter blanket of snow covering the trail.
