Long ago, this jetty sat as one of three, attempting to protect the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from the destruction of the waves.  Today, after the relocation of the lighthouse in 1999, the jetties sits, rotting away, slowly decaying into the sea.  But, this area in Buxton is still a favorite, photographers flock here to photograph the deterioration, fisherman line the shoreline hoping to pull in the day's best red drum, and surfers choose a spot just on the south side of the jetties for a clean, consistent break.
