An Afternoon in an Oregon Rain Forest

travel photography, oregon rain forest,

A few months ago (I know, I know, I'm so behind!), I visited family for a long weekend in Oregon.  In between getting them settled into their new house, my sister in law and I escaped for a few photography excursions.  Our first afternoon we set off for a hike at the Little North Santiam River.  The trail is a 7+ mile out and back and it was pouring down rain, so we knew we wouldn't make it far.  We spent a few hours exploring the area just along the river banks, marveling over the giant mushrooms, the tiny grasses, and the green.  So much green.

There's something magical about walking through a soggy wet forest.  The colors are so vibrant, the shadows so deep.  You can imagine you've woken up right in the middle of a fairy tale.

Oregon is nothing if not green and wet.  In my previous visits, I had been blessed with amazing weather so I had begun to think it had a bad rap.  But, Mother Nature proved me wrong.  I didn't mind too much, the rain sure does create some amazing forests.
