Thoughts on Ruts, Routines, and Life

"You can't photograph what you haven't experienced."

Yesterday I received an email newsletter from David Duchemin with the above words. It got me thinking to all of the times that I felt creative and all of the times that I couldn't create. It turns out that for me being stuck in a rut really means being stuck in a routine. Our days form a natural progression of waking, coffee, online chatter, work, chores, responsibilities, dinner, binge watching, wine drinking, crashing..... repeat.

What if we added a few moments each day for really experiencing. For living. What if we stopped on the way to the grocery store and watched the birds chase each other on the shore? What if we picked a flower and admired each of it's petals instead of just dropping it in a vase?

What if we EXPERIENCED life instead of just living it....?
