Still Moments by the Sea

"In still moments by the sea, life seems large -- drawn and simple. It is there we can see into ourselves." ~ Rolf Edberg

Just before Christmas, I had a photography lesson in Newport News.  My student suggested a spot for us to shoot the sunset and I followed her passed the Christopher Newport campus, through the Mariners Museum, to a magical little place that I never knew existed.  Lion's Bridge is a beautiful little bridge and park area, offering a spectacular view of the James River.  We spent the hour around sunset taking photographs, talking technique, composition, creativity.  She encouraged me to shoot along with her, which is something I rarely do in lessons as I want to focus on my students.  But, it that time, I was reminded of the way you see through the lens when you are so in awe of what you can create with your camera.  It was a magical evening, in a wonderful new spot, with a student who's work I can't wait to see grow over the next year.
