Sony Kando 3.0 - An Epic Experience

In 2018, I was invited to attend Sony Kando 2.0. This was the first event where Sony had invited members of their community and I was completely blown away. So when Kando alumni were invited to sign up first for Kando 3.0, I didn’t hesitate. Kando 3.0 was held during the summer of 2019 in Sunriver, OR and was no less spectacular. Sony pulled out all the stops ensuring that this was their biggest and best event yet.

My favorite shooting excursion was sunrise at Sparks Lake with Sony Artisan Colby Brown. Colby was on hand to offer guidance to anyone seeking help or just to help you brainstorm the best way to get the shot. Tripods were provided by Manfrotto and Breakthrough Photography brought filters for everyone’s use. The morning couldn’t have been prettier with it’s low hanging fog and breathtaking sunrise.

Back at the resort, Sony had taken over the place, making each attendee feel like a VIP. The swag bags were incredible and the opportunity to use Sony’s newest gear had everyone vying for their place in line.

Each evening we were provided with a wonderful dinner and unique opportunities to find inspiration. From hot air balloons to water dancers, there entertainment was on point.

On our first evening there, I reunited with friends from Kando 2.0 for light painting fun. Nothing pairs better with light painting than an open bar.

Shooting opportunities were endless and there was something for everyone. Sets and models were spaced throughout the day offering you the opportunity to work under various conditions and practice different skills. We were taken to waterfalls nearby to fully use the toys provided by Breakthrough Photography.

While the opportunities to learn and experiment were bountiful, the best part of Kando is the community of the Sony family. I was so happy to have friends join me this year and also to catch up with friends from the previous year. Sony has created something so much more special than a brand and I am so proud to be part of it.
