How We Fill Our Moments During the Pandemic

There is only today, with holes in our pockets, with time spilling out, we cannot keep it for tomorrow. We cannot mend our seams to hoard, save, carry.
— Erin Loechner from Chasing Slow

3 months have passed since we moved to Seattle and the whole world changed. Our grand plans for how we would spend the spring of 2020 circled right down the drain during our 20 seconds of hand washing. We’ve experienced a wave of emotions… everything from fear to frustrations. We’ve talked about missed opportunities like they had been guaranteed. Some moments, we give in to those frustrations, letting them ruin our moods and dampen our spirits. But mostly, we’ve chosen to adapt. We’ve found a way to get to know our new town that we might have otherwise missed if things hadn’t have changed. We’ve taken walks through the neighborhoods, admiring our community’s pride in their landscapes. We’ve explored trails close to home, smaller and yet more popular than the back country trails we would have preferred. We’ve spent hours in the kitchen, side-by-side, cooking together rather than rushing to just get something on the table. We’ve learned to exercise in our small space, read, relaxed, and binged. When life was forced to slow down, we didn’t let it stop… we just changed our pace.

As we move into the summer, there are so many things that we are wishing for, preparing for just in case, and dreaming of. But, in the meantime, instead of watching time slip away, we’re filling our moments with the best memories that we can create and living this beautiful life that we’ve been so fortunate to receive.
