Dusk at Little Island Fishing Pier | Virginia Beach Landscape Photographer
Do you know that Bob Seger song We've Got Tonight? You might recognized the version from Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton instead? The first few verses sing:
I know it's late, I know you're weary I know your plans don't include me Still here we are, both of us lonely Longing for shelter from all that we see Why should we worry, no one will care girl Look at the stars so far away We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow? We've got tonight babe Why don't you stay?
Deep in my soul, I've been so lonely All of my hopes, fading away I've longed for love, like everyone else does I know I'll keep searching, even after today So there it is girl, I've said it all now And here we are babe, what do you say? We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow? We've got tonight babe Why don't you stay?
As cheesy as it sounds, this is the song that came straight to mind as I sat watching dusk fall at Little Island Park on this beautiful night. Forrest was traveling for work and the house was dark and quiet. I'd finished up a family portrait session with a large bunch who had headed off in a fury of laughter searching for ice cream. The beach was so calm, the heat and humidity had broken. The sunset itself was behind me, slightly obscured by low lying clouds. But in front of me, above the calm summer water, the sky was pink, yellow and blue, quiet and magic. So I sat on the sand, humming Bob Seger in my head, and watched as the light faded away.
