Dawn to Dusk in Washington DC

When I tagged along on Forrest's business trip to Washington, DC, I had grandiose ideas of creating magical images of the monuments lit up against the dark sky.  I arrived at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the perfect time, but I was a little disappointed (and certainly humbled) to find the stairs were filled with people doing a boot camp class. I did my best to keep them in the shadows as I tried to get my shots.  Turning to face the eastern direction, the sun was beginning to color the sky behind the Washington Monument and the sidewalks surrounding the reflecting pool were mostly empty.

After a full day of shooting, stopping at the Botanic Gardens, Metro Center, and the Jefferson Memorial, I met up with Forrest for sunset on the Mall.  The monuments very filled with tourists, field trips, and tour groups, and crushed any ideas I may have had about nice clean shots.  But, the sunset didn't disappoint the waiting crowds as everyone vied for the best spots to photograph the sky.
