12 Months on Film 2025 - February with the Argus 75
Sunset in the Methow, Argus Seventy Five + Kodak Gold 200
For Christmas, I received a vintage Argus 75 and selected this camera for my February entry 12 Months on Film. Built in the 1950s, this camera was designed to make photography accessible to all. With a fixed focus 75mm lens, a shutter speed around 1/50, aperture somewhere near f11, the only manual selection is which film speed you use. I was also given a box of Kodak Gold 200, so I started there. Unsure of the condition of the camera, I planned to run a roll through and just see what came out. I ended up with a treasure of unexpected images, and the understanding that maybe I should have at least wiped off the front lenses 🤣

I’m not sure if the blur is motion blur caused by handholding at a slow shutter speed or something else. In a way, though, these make very interesting (un)intentional camera movement images.

Since receiving my scans, following a video from Aly’s Vintage Camera Alley, I took the camera apart to check that the shutter wasn't sticking and found that a buried piece of plastic is broken- not enough that it should create issues, but something to be aware of. I tested the shutter and gave the camera a good clean to get ready for roll #2. Although, I kind of love the abstract images that the dirty camera created.
