Beginner Photography Lessons

Cost:  $75 for 2 hours

Are you looking for a photography class to help you understand your dSLR camera? In person, hands on, and completely interactive; this private lesson is designed to help you gain an understanding of the steps that go into creating a photograph rather than just pressing the automatic button.  

Some topics we will cover include:

- What are all those buttons? We will walk step by step through your camera's buttons and menus so that you have a clear understanding of what they do.

- The Exposure Triangle: what are aperture, shutter speed, ISO and how do you use them to create a photograph?

- What are White balance, Auto Focus, and Metering?

Your photography lesson will include:

- One on one mentoring and question and answer session with your digital SLR camera

- Printed "Introduction to Photography" booklet

- Continued support after your lesson to ask questions and share photographs for feedback to help you continue to improve your photography

Intermediate Photography Lessons

Cost:  $75 for 2 hours

Are you shooting in manual mode, but interested in taking your photography one step further? This private lesson is designed to help you improve your photographs by strengthening the foundation upon which great photographs are built.  This workshop will involve actively creating photographs while building upon the foundations from the beginner lesson.

Some topics we will cover include:

- Review of the foundation photography skills including exposure, white balance, metering, and auto focus.

- The art of good composition

- Using design elements to strengthen your photographs

- Understanding and observing light

Your photography lesson will include:

- 2 full hours of one on one mentoring in the field with your digital SLR camera

- Continued support after your lesson to ask questions and share photographs for feedback to help you continue to improve your photography

Photography Lesson F.A.Q.

What do I need to know before I take this photography class?

Beginner:  Nothing!  You can come to the class with a camera still in the box!

Intermediate:  You should have an understanding your camera’s settings and functions and be comfortable shooting in manual, aperture priority, or shutter speed priority mode.

What ages should take this photography class?

Photography is a hobby enjoyed by all ages.  If your middle schooler is interested in learning about photography and has a dSLR, this is the perfect place to start!  And who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?!  Maybe you want to take better photographs of your grandchildren!

What should I bring to the photography lesson?

Your camera, fully charged battery, memory card, camera manual, and a pad and pen are all you need.

Where will the lesson be held?

Depending on day, time of year, and your preferences, we will work together to pick a location convenient and safe for both of us.

What are the travel fees?

If your session falls outside of a 30 mile radius from the zip code 23456 in Virginia Beach, you will be billed for a travel fee.  Travel fees are as follows:  0-30 miles from my home in VB = Free, 30-60 miles from my home in VB= $25, 60-90 miles from my home in VB= $50, sessions on Hatteras Island = Free.
